President Bola Tinubu has declared that the ongoing road construction projects across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are revitalising Nigeria’s economy by improving mobility, boosting productivity, and creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive .
The President made the remarks on Monday during the official commissioning of the newly rehabilitated and expanded roads from Karu Interchange to Customs Clinic Junction, including other adjoining roads in the Karu area of Abuja . The project is part of activities marking Tinubu’s third year in office, with the President represented at the ceremony by Vice President Kashim Shettima .
Renewed Hope Agenda in Action
Tinubu described the road project as another fulfillment of his administration’s commitment to easing urban congestion and improving the quality of life for residents under the Renewed Hope Agenda . He recalled that the government had previously commissioned a water supply project for Karu and neighbouring communities, noting that the latest road project further demonstrates its commitment to delivering critical infrastructure .
“When we took office three years ago, we recognised that true development must reach where the people actually live and commute,” the President stated .
Economic Impact of Infrastructure
According to the President, the Karu corridor, which serves as a critical gateway between the FCT and neighbouring states, had for years been plagued by severe traffic congestion that drained the productivity and energy of residents .
“By expanding and rehabilitating these roads, we are not just laying asphalt; we are injecting life back into the local economy,” Tinubu said .
He noted that the projects dramatically cut down daily travel times, eliminate frustrating gridlocks, and ensure that businesses in densely populated areas can thrive under the right conditions . The road network also prioritises user safety, with the FCT Administration installing modern solar-powered streetlights along the entire corridor to reduce nighttime travel risks and improve visibility for motorists .
Commendation for Wike
Tinubu praised FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for driving infrastructure development across Abuja, stating that the rapid physical transformation could not have happened without his "dogged, relentless and focused supervision" .
“I gave you a simple charge: 'Make Abuja work for all.' You took it and ran with it. From satellite towns to the city centre, you are turning blueprints into roads people can drive on today,” the President said .
Local Content and Sustainability
The President commended the contractor, Abdul-Val Constructions Limited, a local firm, for quality work and timely delivery, noting that it has demonstrated that Nigerian companies can match international benchmarks for quality, structural integrity, and project management .
The road, awarded in August 2025, connects Karu Interchange along the Abuja-Keffi Expressway to Customs Clinic Junction, and includes the DSS Road, NIA Road, EFCC Road, Hospital Road, and Old CBN Quarters Road within Karu town . The successful completion is expected to significantly improve accessibility, ensure smooth traffic flow, and enhance security in the area .
