Troops Rescue Six Kidnapped Victims in Sokoto Operation

Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued six kidnapped victims during a targeted operation in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The rescue took place on Thursday, according to security analyst Bakatsine, who shared details of the operation on X on Saturday. The troops intercepted three terrorists on motorcycles who were transporting the captives from Kure village.

Upon sighting the approaching troops, the terrorists abandoned their victims and fled the scene. The rescued individuals have been identified as Usman, 24; Baba Usman, 56; Hassan, 22; Sunusi, 23; Abdullahi Yahaya, 28; and Sule, 15.

Sustained Counter-Terrorism Efforts

The operation reflects ongoing efforts by the military to combat terrorism and banditry across Nigeria's North-West region. Operation FANSAN YAMMA has been conducting multiple operations in Sokoto and surrounding states, rescuing dozens of kidnapped victims in recent weeks.

In a separate operation on June 22, troops rescued three kidnapped women in Zamfara State—Zainab Muhammadu, 28; Hafsat Ibrahim, 20; and Halira Usman, 17—who had spent approximately three months in captivity. The military also recovered a PKT machine gun, ammunition, motorcycles, and other operational materials during these operations.

Commitment to Regional Security

The military has maintained that these operations demonstrate the effectiveness of intelligence-led offensives aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and denying criminal groups freedom of movement across the North-West region.

Security analyst Bakatsine commended the troops for their efforts, praising their courage, professionalism, and sustained commitment in the fight against terrorism.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA has reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements until peace and security are fully restored in the region.
