Abia State – The Member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ibe Okwara, has marked three years of service with a comprehensive scorecard highlighting key legislative and developmental milestones achieved since assuming office.

In a statement issued to commemorate the anniversary, Hon. Okwara detailed his stewardship, underscoring a commitment to effective representation, infrastructure development, human capital empowerment, and legislative advocacy for his constituents.

Legislative Interventions

Hon. Okwara noted that within three years, he has sponsored a number of bills and motions aimed at addressing critical issues affecting Arochukwu/Ohafia and the nation at large. Key among them were motions on the deplorable condition of federal roads in the constituency, including the urgent need for the rehabilitation of the Ohafia–Arochukwu road, which has long been a major concern for commuters and residents.

He also highlighted his advocacy for the establishment of a Federal College of Education in the constituency, a move he said would broaden access to higher education and enhance teacher training in the region.

Infrastructure and Community Development

Beyond the floor of the National Assembly, the lawmaker said his office has facilitated several intervention projects in collaboration with federal agencies. These include:

· Installation of solar-powered streetlights in communities across the constituency.
· Provision of transformer units to improve electricity supply in rural areas.
· Drilling and rehabilitation of boreholes to ensure access to potable water.
· Renovation of classroom blocks and construction of skills acquisition centres.

Okwara disclosed that over 50 community-based projects had been executed or are currently at advanced stages of completion, directly impacting thousands of households.

Youth and Women Empowerment

The lawmaker also highlighted his flagship empowerment programme, which has provided:

· Business grants and startup capital to over 300 small-scale traders and artisans.
· Scholarships and educational support to students in tertiary institutions.
· Vocational training in ICT, tailoring, and cosmetology for unemployed youths.
· Distribution of farm inputs and equipment to agricultural cooperatives.

According to Hon. Okwara, the empowerment initiatives were designed to create sustainable livelihoods and reduce poverty, particularly among women and young people in the constituency.

Healthcare Interventions

In the health sector, Hon. Okwara disclosed that his office had facilitated several medical outreach programmes, offering free eye surgeries, malaria treatment, and maternal health services in partnership with relevant health agencies. He stated that over 5,000 constituents had directly benefited from these healthcare programmes.

Acknowledging Partnerships

While presenting his scorecard, Okwara thanked traditional rulers, religious leaders, community development associations, and political stakeholders for their support and cooperation. He said effective representation required collective effort and synergy with the people.

He appealed to his constituents to continue to offer constructive feedback, assuring that his doors remained open to all regardless of party affiliation.

Looking Ahead

Hon. Okwara reaffirmed his dedication to his legislative duties and promised to intensify efforts in the remaining years of his tenure. He noted that pending bills and projects would be pursued with renewed vigour, while urging the people of Arochukwu/Ohafia to remain patient and supportive.
