Following his re-election, a prominent cleric has urged Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji to run an inclusive government, carrying all stakeholders along for the state's continued development.
The call came as Muslim leaders across the state reaffirmed their support for the governor, citing his inclusive governance style as a key factor in his administration's success .
Cleric Praises Governor's Inclusive Approach
The Chief Imam of Ekiti State and President of the League of Imams and Alfas in the South-West, Edo, and Delta states, Alhaji Kewulere Bello, praised Governor Oyebanji for his performance, attributing the administration's success to strict adherence to inclusive governance .
The cleric made these remarks during a special Juma'at thanksgiving service held at the Central Mosque, Oja Oba, Ado Ekiti, to mark the third anniversary of the Oyebanji administration .
Bello highlighted the governor's humility as a distinguishing trait, noting that "many governors have ruled Ekiti, but there are lessons to learn from this one. He has gained experience from his predecessors and is not a leader who listens to sycophants" .
Achievements Under Oyebanji's Leadership
The Chief Imam commended the governor's achievements in road infrastructure, prompt payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities, as well as social interventions for the sick and needy .
"No wonder all four former governors of the state openly support him. When a leader is humble and accommodating like Oyebanji, governance becomes easier, and people willingly support you. Arrogance takes a leader nowhere," Bello stated .
Call for Continued Inclusiveness
The cleric urged the governor and his team to remain fair and just to all citizens, regardless of political or religious affiliations .
"The governor deserves our support. Let us continue to pray for him. Nobody is infallible. He can't do it all. But for him to succeed, he must continue in this good direction. He shouldn't derail from his focus," Bello advised .
Governor's Response
In his remarks, Governor Oyebanji thanked the Muslim Ummah for their continued prayers and support, assuring them of his administration's commitment to inclusive development .
The governor also praised the religious tolerance among Muslims and Christians in Ekiti, describing it as a major factor behind the state's peace and stability .
"I will beg all of us in politics not to be vindictive. We can't victimise anyone because of his political interest. We all have interest to become good in life and all APC members must stand united," Oyebanji said .
"I don't begrudge people based on political interests. Let us spread a hand of love and fellowship to those who don't support us. They can support us tomorrow," he added .
Muslim Community's Endorsement
The call for inclusive governance aligns with the recent endorsement Governor Oyebanji received from the Muslim community ahead of the election, where they pledged over 150,000 votes for his re-election .
Sheikh Bello previously described Oyebanji as "a well-prepared leader who understands the demands of governance," with impressive achievements earning him the confidence of the Muslim community .
Muslim leaders noted that over 50 Muslims currently hold various positions in the current administration, describing the gesture as unprecedented and a clear demonstration of fairness and inclusion .
Second Term Commitment
Governor Oyebanji responded to concerns about second-term performance, stating that he intends to deliver even more impactful projects and programmes across sectors .
"Second term is the most critical, it is better to serve once and leave than to mess up in the second term," the governor asserted .
