ENUGU – Controversial Catholic priest and founder of the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, has made a startling allegation, claiming that the rising wave of kidnappings and insecurity across Nigeria is part of a calculated political plot to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking during a recent ministry gathering, the fiery cleric warned that unseen political forces are deliberately targeting innocent children to turn public sentiment against the current administration.
“If they want to overthrow Tinubu, it is not by kidnapping our children so that the whole of Nigeria will be angry against the President,” Mbaka declared.
The priest, known for his sharp political commentary and controversial prophecies, suggested that the abductions are not mere banditry but a deliberate strategy aimed at destabilizing the government.
According to Mbaka, the masterminds behind the plot intend to exploit the emotional pain of families and the outrage of citizens to trigger a nationwide revolt, potentially paving the way for a change in leadership—whether through mass protests or extra-constitutional means.
“They want to use the blood of our children to wet the ground for a new government,” he lamented, urging security agencies to look beyond conventional criminal networks and investigate what he called “boardroom conspiracies.”
The cleric stopped short of naming specific individuals or groups behind the alleged plot but called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and not allow themselves to be used as instruments of destabilization.
Mixed Reactions Trail Mbaka’s Claims
The priest’s remarks have generated a firestorm of reactions across the country.
Supporters of President Tinubu hailed Mbaka for speaking out, describing his statement as a necessary wake-up call. Many argued that the timing and pattern of recent kidnappings suggest a coordinated effort to undermine the government’s credibility.
However, critics were quick to dismiss the claims. Human rights activists and security analysts warned that framing widespread insecurity as a political conspiracy could distract from the urgent task of rescuing victims and holding bandits accountable.
“People are dying and children are being taken from their homes. To reduce this national tragedy to a political script is reckless,” a security analyst who preferred to remain anonymous told this blog.
Neither the presidency nor the police have officially responded to Mbaka’s allegations at the time of filing this report.
A History of Political Declarations
Fr. Mbaka is no stranger to political controversy. He was a fierce critic of former President Goodluck Jonathan and later became a vocal supporter of President Tinubu during the 2023 general elections. His political interventions have often divided public opinion, with some viewing him as a prophet and others as a partisan actor.
What Next?
As insecurity continues to plague several states—particularly in the North-West and North-Central regions—pressure is mounting on the Tinubu administration to demonstrate tangible results. Whether Mbaka’s claims hold any weight or are dismissed as mere speculation, the underlying reality remains: Nigerian families are hurting, and the demand for safety is more urgent than ever.
