Married Woman Reported Kidnapped Found with Lover in Delta Hotel

Asaba, Delta State – In an unexpected twist, a married woman who was reportedly kidnapped in Delta State has been found safe and sound – not in a criminal den, but in a hotel room with her lover, police have confirmed.

The Delta State Police Command disclosed on Monday that the woman, whose name has been withheld for family privacy, was the subject of a missing person report filed by her husband, who had alleged she was abducted by unknown gunmen.

According to police sources, the husband reported to the station that his wife failed to return home after running an errand and that his calls to her phone went unanswered. Fearing the worst, he told officers she might have been kidnapped, prompting the police to launch a search operation.

However, detectives acting on intelligence traced the woman’s phone signal to a popular hotel located in a neighboring town within Delta State. Upon arrival at the hotel, officers reportedly found the woman unharmed and in the company of a man who was not her husband.

The husband identified the man as a long-time family acquaintance, sources said.

Initial investigations indicate that there was no kidnapping involved and that the woman had willingly left her matrimonial home to spend time with her lover. No ransom demand was ever made, and there is no evidence of third-party involvement or force.

A senior police officer involved in the case, speaking on condition of anonymity, described the incident as a domestic matter.

“The woman is safe. There was no kidnapping. She voluntarily went to the hotel with her lover. The husband has been duly informed. This is a case of marital infidelity, not a crime. The police do not interfere in such matters unless a law has been broken,” the officer said.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the development in a brief statement on Tuesday, cautioning citizens against filing false reports that waste security resources.

“We encourage spouses to resolve personal differences within the family or through appropriate legal channels. Filing a false kidnapping report diverts police attention from genuine cases,” Edafe said.

The woman has since been released to her family, though it remains unclear whether her husband intends to pursue legal action or seek a divorce.

Social commentators have since weighed in on the incident, with many criticizing the woman for her actions while also condemning the husband for prematurely alleging kidnapping without proper verification.

The police have stated that no charges will be filed against any of the involved parties, as no criminal offense was established.
