The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old housewife, Sadiya Lawal, for allegedly attempting to kill her husband by slitting his throat while he slept in Katsina metropolis .
The command's spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, confirming that the suspect is in police custody as investigations continue .
How the Incident Unfolded
According to the police statement, the victim, Jamilu Ibrahim, reported the incident at the Central Market Police Division at about 9:00 a.m. on Monday . He alleged that his wife attacked him with a knife at approximately 5:30 a.m. while he was fast asleep .
The attack left Ibrahim with a deep cut to the neck. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and responding positively to medical care .
Police Response and Arrest
Following the report, detectives visited the scene of the incident, arrested the suspect, and recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack as an exhibit .
DSP Abubakar Sadiq provided details of the case in his statement:
"Today, June 29, 2026, at about 9:00 AM, one Jamilu Ibrahim, male, reported at the Central Market Division, Katsina, that on the same date at about 5:30 am, while he was asleep, his wife, one Sadiya Lawal, female, age 23, attacked him with a knife in an attempt to slit his throat. The victim sustained a deep cut injury to the neck" .
The police spokesperson added that Lawal remains in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations .
Separate Bandit Attack Foiled
In a separate development, the Katsina State Police Command also announced that its operatives successfully repelled an attempted bandit attack in Dandume Local Government Area .
The incident occurred on June 28, 2026, when a distress call was received reporting that a large group of armed bandits riding motorcycles had been sighted along the Kadisau-Sheme Road in Dandume LGA .
The Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilised operatives from the Violent Crimes Response Unit alongside members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to the scene . The security team engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat and flee .
Two motorcycles and a machete abandoned by the fleeing suspects were recovered as exhibits .
Commissioner's Statement
Reacting to both incidents, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Aliyu Umar Fage, commended the officers involved in repelling the bandits and reaffirmed the command's commitment to protecting lives and property across the state .
CP Fage also urged residents to shun domestic violence and embrace peaceful means of resolving family disputes . He appealed to the public to remain vigilant and share timely, credible information with security agencies .
